Crazy, emotional day!!
Just found my post from last week!! Explains my crazy week much better!! 2/27
Yesterday was probably the most intense and emotional days I have had here in Vinny's. First off we went to the hospital where we met a patient who, 6 months ago, jumped from a pier drunk and landed on his head and is now paralyzed from the waist down. The depressing part of this patient's story is the fact that he has no one really to take care of him at home so he just staying in the hospital until he passes away from sepsis due to multiple bed sores and anemia. It was a hard case cause this man is pretty much just on palliative care and everyone is just waiting to see how long he lasts. After the hosptial and a quick stop at the grocery store, we were on our way home when right in front if us a reggae van hit a little boy who was running across the street. The little boy was about 7-8 years old and when hit was thrown about 20 feet down the road into a ditch. Immediately, Jenna and I jumped out of the car and tried to see how badly hurt the little boy was. He was lying on his side, awake, badly breathing and bleeding from his head. Jenna and I assessed the situation and determined that the child shoudl not be moved in case he landed on his neck. All of a sudden, a man who was driving on the other side of the road, jumped out of his car and grabbed the child, not taking care of his head or neck. He proceeded to stand in the middle of the road begging someone to go with him to the hospital. Finally, the little boy's aunt came running down the road and went with the man to the hospital. We all stayed until the cops came and told them what we saw. This morning, after observing a hernia surgery (which was really cool), we had to go to the police station and give them our statement and they said that we may have to go to court to give our testament of what we saw. Let's just say it was a very crazy and emotional day yesterday. Hope everyone is having a good friday!! TGIF!
