LA Girl Still Stuck on an Island

Dr. Julie Anna Zuchowski

So I did it!! This past Saturday I graduated medical school. It was actually a pretty surreal experience. I have been so wrapped up in our wedding that the graduation really snuck up on me. My parents came into town on Thursday and stayed in our lovely little apartment for 3 nights. I think Nat and I did OK as hosts; my parents keep saying how much fun they had. We took my parents out for dinners, brunches, Coney Island, even Greenpoint, aka Brooklyn's version of Warsaw, Poland. Saturday was the big day and it pretty much took all day for me to get ready cause there were 4 people trying to use one tiny bathroom! I have been so nonchalant about this graduation and it really didn't hit me how important this really was until right in the middle of our Dean's speech. Tears started to well up in my eyes so I quickly thought of something funny so Pete wouldn't see me! hehe. After the ceremony, my parents, Nat and I went out to dinner to celebrate then we hit up the SGU grad party. When Nat and I were leaving from the party, the tears started up again but this time because I wasn't sure when I would see some of my friends again, it was really hard to say goodbye.

Anyways, this whole experience of going through MPH to get to med school and then going through Hurricaine Ivan 3 weeks after finally starting med school, being transported to NY then back to Grenada and then back to NY for clinicals all leading up to this point, it has been an insane ride. It's crazy how fast the time has gone by and how much I have seen and learned through the journey. Thinking now about graduating from SGU, I feel like it is a culmination of all of my dreams and goals come true.

Keep an eye out for pictures
