Who is Dr. Spencer?!
So I am now 2 weeks into my intern year and I must say it's been a crazy 2 weeks. The peds interns had 2.5 weeks of orientation, which I later found out we were the only peds program to start that early, filled with trauma and cardiac life support classes for adults, kids and babies. We also did a lot of paperwork and received a lot for information about what to do , what not to do and everything in between while a resident at Maimo. So after 2.5 weeks, I finally started residency and I was "lucky" enough to start on Maimo floors. After 2 weeks and 3 calls on the floor, I am starting to understand why they say intern year is so hard. So to explain the title of this entry...for the first couple of days, I kept getting pages and calls asking for a Dr. Spencer and it seriously took me a minute to realize that they were in fact talking about me and not Nat...one time I was about to tell someone that Dr. Spencer was downstairs in the ED!! hehe. Overall, I am having a good time on the floors. There are some things that are kinda annoying, like having to draw our own bloods every morning before sign out which takes away from what little sleep I get every call, or the computer system which still seems super archaic to me or making sure I don't look like an idiot in front of not only my attendings but 3rd and 4th year students that for some reason actually think I know what I am doing! HEHE. My 3 calls so far have been doable...been getting an average of 3 hours of sleep every time. However, after my calls I have started to not go back to sleep so I can get some stuff done and not lose the whole day but I end up being so cranky and blah that I think I am going to have to change that. Well this past weekend was my golden weekend, which means I was post call Friday and had Saturday and Sunday off. So Friday Nat and I went to the city to check out Nat's mom's paintings that are being displayed in a gallery in Chelsea . They were really beautiful and it was really cool seeing them displayed in a gallery. Saturday was spent hanging out with the new ED interns at the Intern BBQ. I decided to make a Mudd Pie which turned out very nicely but was the messiest desserts I have ever made. AT the BBQ, Nat and I finally got to experience playing Wii. It was actually a lot of fun and now of course, Nat wants to get one for our place! hehe. Sunday was a pretty chill day; we took the puppy to Prospect Park and had a picnic. I had call on the next Monday night which was by far the worst call yet...15 minutes of sleep. The rest of the week went alright and I am back on call tomorrow, Friday, night which I am definitely not looking forward to.
I have taken some pictures of events in the last 4 weeks which I will post very soon.
