The President and the Pyelo

It has been a crazy couple of days for me. First of all, I left work early on Friday cause I was feeling like complete shit; I drank a cup of tea and ended up throwing it all up, no fun! SO my nausea and stomach pain continued all weekend until Sunday. Sunday I thought I was feeling much better so Nat and I went to sail around the Hudson River on a tour of Ellis Island and The Statue of Liberty. (See picture on right). It was a lot of fun until we were stopped on the water by the coast guard because the one and only GW was coming into town as we spoke. They stopped all traffic, by land and by sea!! Once we got off the boat we decided to walk over to WTC to see all of the goings on for 9/11. We were stopped by about 100 cops because GW was on his way at that moment. I took a video of his whole entourage so I will see if I can upload it.
But for now here is a picture of GW in his limo. We found out that GW was doing a special little ceremony at WTC that day before he made a public statement on 9/11. After all of the excitement of the President, Nat and I attempted to have dinner. I ended up throwing up everything I tried to eat. So Nat and I finally decided that I was time for me to go to the ED. So I spent a lovely 5 hours, until 3am, in the ED. I was poked, prodded and tested the entire time. It ended up that I am suffering from a really bad case of complicated pyelo (aka a really really bad kidney infection). I was given IV antibiotics, morphine and hydrated for 5 hours but luckily I was not admitted. So that brings us to today, it is day 2 post-ED visit. I have missed the last 2 days of peds rotation. I will try my best to get into work tomorrow...hopefully. Cross your fingers that I get better soon.

Hit by Ernesto!

Right now I am holed up in my apartment due to Tropical Storm Ernesto which is running its course through New York with lots of rain and wind. I tried to venture out in the weather to go out to Park Slope but when I took one foot step outside I ran right back in like a dog with its tail between its legs. It is so wet and miserable. Nat is unfortunately, or fortunately, stuck at work for the rest of the day. If the rain does let up, Nat and I will try to go out to dinner tonight.

Enough cold weather news, this past week I have been working in the peds ED with Nat. It was a lot of fun working with him and seeing him in action. The ED was very cool and very stressful at times but I definitely don't think it is right for me, I can't handle all of that stress and running around. I saw a lot of interesting cases this past week, everything from lacerations of all kinds to Pierre-Robin syndrome. Overall, very cool.

Well, this week I will be starting my 3 week stint on the Peds floors. It should be very cool except I will have to get up very early to check on patients all the time! Well, will update more later!!
